Dr Paul Verrills is currently on the Research Committee for the International Spine Intervention Society (ISIS), is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Musculoskeletal Medicine (AFMM), and has a Masters in Pain Medicine. He is an active member of the Spine Society of Australia and lead author of a number of peer reviewed, published original research projects. He has extensively trained, lectured and demonstrated on interventional pain management techniques both in Australia and the United States. Dr Verrills regularly contributes articles to specialist journals on pain management and has a special interest in discogenic low back pain and neuromodulation.

Key member of the team of pain management physicians that introduced manometric monitored provocation discography to Australia and Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET) & Percutaneous Disc Decompression -Nucleoplasty to Victoria.
Functional Stereotactic Mapping procedures to increase the accuracy of radiofrequency neurotomy lesioning.
Amongst the first to perform transforaminal epidural injections using CT guided control and helped to define the approach using this modality to the cervical nerve roots.
